A part of my practice, that I continue
to treasure, is therapy for people on the road. Because I trained and practiced in LA
for almost twenty years and my own musical background (BS in Music
Education, cello major) this was a natural connection. As my LA clients
began to go on the road in musicals we would continue to do weekly phone
sessions. This grew by word of mouth through many regional and touring
productions such as Phantom, Jekyl and Hyde, 3hree, Ragtime 1776, Jesus
Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon, etc...
Life in the arts is difficult enough, but life on the road and on tour has
it's own unique challenges. Constant change, being away from one's
familiar home, making sense out of a "moving community," and
certain-uncertainty add to the "normal" challenges of day to day life. It has
been my privilege to work with many brilliant and talented people
over the years. The typical things we have focused on are: relationships,
anxiety, depression, fear of failure/success, self esteem, loneliness,
financial issues and the constant challenge of maintaining a life
somewhere else.
Under these circumstances phone sessions are the best and only practical
option. This works well because actors are so used to being in touch with
their feelings and personal contact is often not necessary. Once a week there is
a familiar place to go and just take care of yourself no matter where you
are in the country. (The only drawback can be putting up with my little dyslexic
time zone problem)
This is what some people on the road have to say about their experience:
______
"I have worked with Dr. McCord and
have found her to be an amazing support over the years. As an actor
that has spent over 7 years on the road, the only type of therapy that was
possible for me was therapy by phone. Wendy is AMAZINGLY intuitive and
has a gift for knowing exactly what I am feeling or experiencing by the
sound and inflection of my voice. I have found therapy by phone to be
equally as effective for me as in person. Wendy has been an
amazing support in what could be a very lonely profession. I don't
know what I would have done without her compassion, kindness and incredible
insight."
_____
"I don't know how I would have gotten through
some very difficult life situations without you."
_____
"Thank You for doing what you do so well!!"
____
Under Actors Equity, Union Labor Life Insurance, the sessions of $120 are
covered at 50% after the yearly deductible.
You are invited to set up a free initial 20 minute
consultation call after which time you may choose to continue for the full
hour.
If you feel that emotional therapy is not what you
need, I would like to recommend a truly wonderful "Life and Business of the
Business Coach." His name is Roger DeWitt, he is also phone
based and can be reached at 917-686-0157 or at
